Analyzing private-sector development
A pan – African jury awarded a total US$668,700 to 29 teams conducting research on business environments and investment climates in Africa. The competition, which constitutes the first round of support form our 2.8 million ICBE Research Fund, drew 236 entries from 30 African countries. After peer reviewers scored the proposals, the jury awarded 12 grants of up to US$50,000 for intermediate research projects and 19 grants of up to US$10,000 for small research projects. The winners are now at work analyzing such issues as regulation and reform in procurement; investment and corporate governance; supply chains and the informal sector; public and private sector partnerships; capital markets and foreign direct investments; energy and poverty in rural areas; and the creation and growth of youth and women enterprises.
