The need for low, middle and high level trained legal manpower
in Ethiopia still remains unsatisfied nearly four decades after
the introduction of formal legal education in the country. The
need has come even more felt after the coming into force of the
new Ethiopian Constitution and with it the advent of Federalism.
Lawyers are badly needed to man justice institutions in the regions
as well as similar institutions at the center. Moreover, great
majority of Ethiopian high school graduates have, for the last
two or more decades, not been able to join public institutions
of higher learning because of high competitions to join such institutions.
It would therefore be very useful and helpful to start and carry
out private colleges like unity and to introduce programs in various
disciplines to help absorb high school graduates unable to join
universities or other public tertiary level education institutions.
The law regular degree program at Unity University College would
be one such program and it is with that in mind that it is being
introduced. |
