Objectives of the Department of Law


The Department of Law has the following general objectives:

  1. Train and produce competent Judges, public Prosecutors, attorneys, legal advisors, etc.
  2. To continuously review and develop the curriculum in order to keep in pace with changing principles and\or rules of Law.
  3. Establishment of linkage with tertiary level educational institutions with in the local and international plane.
  4. Contributing to the furtherance of justice through research and other activities.
  5. Preparation of moot court competitions (mock trial) among students in order to give legal studies in such a way that theoretical analysis of legal rules are interwoven with issues of practical interest.
  6. Establishing contact with prospective employers and professional Associations.
  7. Encouraging, assisting and creating conductive environment for staff of the Law Department to engage themselves in research activities.
  8. Contributing towards the preservation of ethical standards of the profession through teaching Legal Ethics.
  9. Designing and implementing mechanisms to upgrade the status of the staff of the Law Department.
