The Faculty of Humanities and social Sciences (FHSS) and its departments came into being in July 2002. At present the FHSS has two divisions: Department of foreign Languages and Department of Philosophy and Psychology. The Faculty (FHSS) is run by a dean who is advised by a Faculty Academic Commission. The dean is responsible to the Academic Vice president.

The major duty and function of the FHSS, as realized through the office of the Dean, is to plan, coordinate and supervise the overall administrative, academic and research activities and other related matters within the Faculty. The dean also submits budget requisition and annual plan, supervises its implementation and prepares annual reports. Moreover, he represents the Faculty in the Senate and at present also works as a member in two Senate Standing Committees: Academic Standards and Curriculum Review Committee (ASCRC) and Research and Public3tions Committee (RPC).

The FHSS does not run its own academic program either in the regular or in the extension divisions. It has only a degree program in English for distance learners. Instead, it offers general foundation courses- English, logic, ethics and civic education and psychology to regular, extension and distance students. (See courses offered by department below). The whole objective of teaching foundation courses is to help students acquire general knowledge in various disciplines and develop skills that would enhance their capacity to pursue further studies.
