Alongside the teaching activities, the department is also devoted to conducting studies aimed at addressing learners' language deficiencies. In this regard, so far the department has conducted three annual workshops in which studies carried out on language and study skills were presented and practical lessons gained. The department sees to it that this practice lies at the heart of its endeavors. The fourth annual workshop of the department is to be held in January 2005.

Research activities are coordinated by the Research and Publications Committee of the department. This year, the department is planning to launch its first quarterly bulletin with the view to promoting professional dialogue among the community in the university college. There is also a plan to conduct departmental seminars and lecture series once in four weeks.
