| The Department of Foreign Languages is functioning under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. At present, it is a support-giving department offering FOUR COURSES (i.e., Communication Skills, Sophomore English, Business English, and English for lawyer ) to all students of the university college, except for English for lawyer, which only students in the Department of Law take instead of the course Business English. By offering these courses, the department strives to equip students with the necessary language skills, thereby facilitating their study of other academic or major area subjects.
As a department of foreign languages, we envision to diversify the range of courses we offer. In this regard, the department is making all the necessary preparations to begin offering French and Arabic courses. The preparation for a six-month and one-year Basic Communicative French course has been finalized and registration is underway to start the course by mid November.
Apart from offering different courses, the department of Foreign Languages has so far been able to.
- Launch a Degree in English through the distance mode
- Give a number of short-term courses to employees from different background
- Conduct a number of studies pertaining to the teaching of English
- Produce a number of teaching materials for both regular and distance programs.
- Hold monthly departmental seminars on the teaching of English in particular, and educational practices in general
- Create linkages with local and international educational institutions, and organizations
- Open a resource centre where a collection of educational resources is available for Promoting research and enriching the teaching and learning of English and French
- Finalize its preparations for launching the teaching of French, which has in fact attracted a number of students as well as workers from within and outside of Unity University College.
On the other hand, it is now planning to launch a degree in English in the regular program. It is also ready to offer extra. Curricular, or tutorial classes to students upon request. |
